Works are complete
After more than 13 weeks of cold nights, our delivery partners Interflow have completed the Collins Street water main renewal.
As the city slept, our crews were out undertaking these vital works to ensure safe and secure water supply for residents, office workers, local traders and visitors to Melbourne’s CBD. Browse this page to learn more about the project.
Now we have finished Collins Street, we will be moving to Bourke Street where our delivery partners Downer will be starting the water main renewal between Meyers and Exhibition Street.
Project profile
The Collins Street water main renewal is an essential infrastructure upgrade that is helping secure safe and reliable water services for our customers for years to come. The project is part of our CBD Network Renewals program, which is upgrading ageing water and sewer assets across Melbourne’s CBD, some of which were installed 160 years ago..
The project is installing 212 metres of new water main along Collins Street between Exhibition Street and Russell Street. The new pipe will replace the existing water main which was built in 1915 and is nearing the end of its operational life.
Works will commence in late March 2021 and take approximately 10-12 weeks to complete, with a further three weeks of reinstatement works to follow. Renewals experts Interflow is delivering the works for Greater Western Water.
We will work with our customers and key stakeholders to keep construction impacts to a minimum, and update them on the project’s progress.
