Project Overview
As Melton continues to grow, Greater Western Water has identified that some customers in the local area may be experiencing low pressure during peak usage periods. To provide consistent water supply, we've installed an interim 900m above-ground steel water pipeline along unused council-owned land between Exford and Rees Roads.
This project aims to address the immediate water supply needs while enabling long-term sustainable growth in one of Melbourne's fastest growing regions.
This temporary solution will maintain reliable water pressure for the community while we work towards a permanent, long-term solution.
This project was delivered by Negri Contractors on behalf of Greater Western Water.

The yellow line indicates the alignment of the new above ground water main between Exford and Rees Roads.
What to expect after construction
Once construction of the temporary solution is complete, the above-ground pipeline will remain in place until the permanent underground pipeline is constructed.
In the interim, you can expect:
- Reliable water supply: The temporary pipeline will ensure consistent water pressure and flow for the community.
- Visual presence: The above-ground pipeline will remain visible, surrounded by temporary fencing and water barriers for safety and protection. It will also be regularly monitored by GWW staff and maintained to ensure reliability.
- Access restrictions: To maintain pedestrian access, a temporary gravel track has been created along the north side of the pipeline, allowing pedestrians walking access to Exford Road until the permanent watermain is built.
- Future updates: We will re-engage community as we progress with planning, approvals, and construction of the permanent solution.
We appreciate your understanding as we work to deliver both immediate and long-term water supply solutions for the growing Melton community.

What to expect during construction
While we will make every effort to minimise disruption and inconvenience to you, the following can be expected:
- A site office was located near Exford Road (marked in red on the above map).
- Most of the works will be carried out from 7am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.
- Some of the works will take place on Saturday from 7am and 1pm.
- Pedestrian access near Guthrie Drive will be restricted while construction vehicles access the site from this area.
- As part of these works, there may be traffic, access, and visual impacts, as well as construction noise and dust from machinery and vehicles during working hours.
- You may notice construction vehicles and increased traffic on Exford Road and nearby areas during working hours.
- Your water and sewerage services will not be interrupted during these works.
Saving water this summer
While we complete these important works, we’re reminding customers to be water wise this summer. The warmer weather can put extra demand on our water network, especially in growing areas like Melton South and Eynesbury.
You can make a big difference by aiming for Target 150 – using no more than 150 litres of water per person each day. These simple water saving tips will help get you started.
If your property has purple taps, it’s supplied with Class A recycled water. Using recycled water for watering your garden or washing your car saves precious drinking water and eases demand on our network. Please remember that recycled water is not suitable for drinking.
