Project Overview

The Hall Street, Newport water main renewal will ensure the local area has continued access to a safe and reliable water supply.

These works will be delivered by Downer on behalf of Greater Western Water.

Construction will take place on Hall Street, between High Street and Tait Street.

  • How long will works take to complete?

Works will take about 16 to 18 weeks to complete.

We will also complete reinstatement within 3 weeks of finishing our construction. All roads, driveways and footpaths will be restored at this time.

We will let you know as soon as possible if there are changes to our work timeline.

  • When will works take place?

Works will start from the week of Monday 28 April 2025.

Construction will take place during the day between 7am and 5pm Monday to Friday.

Where are we working?

The red line on the map below shows where the new water main will be. It will run along the parking bays on the eastern side of Hall Street.

Construction will be completed in stages to minimise community impact, with each section of works being about 100m.

Works will start at the Hall Street and Tait Street intersection.

What can you expect during works?

  • Changes to traffic conditions

Construction will require full road closures in sections of Hall Street. Only one section will be closed at a time.

Detours will be in place and traffic controllers will be on site to help vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians safely navigate the area.

  • Businesses are still open!

Hall Street is still open for business! We will be working closely with all traders to make sure it's business as usual for locals and visitors.

Traffic controllers will be onsite during work hours to help you navigate the area and continue accessing your favourite spots. Footpath access to businesses will remain open at all times.

  • Construction noise and dust

There will be construction noise and dust from machinery and vehicles during working hours.

Noise during construction will be in line with Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Victoria guidelines.

  • Changes to parking

Parking spaces on both sides of the road will be impacted while works take place in that section.

You may see some machinery and materials stored in street parking bays.
