Works to renew the water mains on Mt Alexander Road are progressing well. Works were originally scheduled to be completed prior to Christmas with permanent reinstatement works to be completed in January 2023.

However due to operational requirements some of our renewal works will continue into the new year.

As we complete this project, we have divided the remainder of the project into two stages.

Stage 1 Mt Alexander Road (12 December to 22 December)

Works will continue on Mt Alexander Road in the day time between 9:30am and 3:30pm Monday to Friday in the lead up to Christmas.

Between 23 December 2022 and 9 January 2023, our works will be paused. The site will be vacated and the area will be restored so that roads and footpaths can be used safely.

Stage 2: South Street, Kent Street and Buckland Street (9 January to late January)

In the New Year, works will recommence in on Stage 2, beginning in xxx Street. These works will be undertaken between 9:30am and 3:00pm, Monday to Friday and will continue until completion.

Permanent reinstatement works for Mt Alexander Road and surrounding streets is scheduled to be completed in late January 2023.

Our crews have been making good progress over the past couple of weeks since we commenced work on Mount Alexander Road.

We have changed the way that we are delivering the project and have made the decision to continue the delivery of the project during the day. We previously indicated that we would be undertaking work at night time.

We have made the decision to move to day works, so that we can minimise amenity impacts on the community.

We have worked closely with the Department of Transport and Yarra Trams in making this decision. To minimise impacts on Mount Alexander Road traffic and public transport operations, our works will be between 9:30am and 3:30pm, to avoid working during peak traffic periods.

Works will be completed during the day between Monday and Friday. We expect some night time works, but notice will be provided before this occurs.

Works will be completed in December prior to Christmas. This will be followed by final reinstatement works in January 2023.

Project Overview

The Mount Alexander Road water main renewal is an essential, proactive infrastructure upgrade that will support the needs of the local community.

The project will install over 950 metres of new water main along Mount Alexander Road between Mascoma Street to the north and Buckland Street to the south. The project also includes an upgrade to the water main on parts of South Street.

The new pipe will replace the existing pipes built between the 1910s and the 1930s which are reaching the end of their operational life.

These works will be delivered by Interflow on our behalf.
