Project Overview

We're upgrading the Riddells Creek Recycled Water Plant (RWP) to ensure we can continue to provide reliable services to the community of Riddells Creek now and into the future.

The proposed works will involve upgrading a section of the RWP called the 'inlet works'.

What is the role of inlet works?

The inlet works is where wastewater is filtered when it first enters the facility to remove large objects like tissues or grit before treatment.

It is a component of the RWP which acts like the "mouth" of the treatment plant with wastewater passing through it before entering into the facility.

Once the large objects have been filtered through the inlet works, the wastewater then directs flows into the various lagoons to be treated.

Why are these upgrades needed?

The inlet works upgrades are needed to:

  • Respond to the increased speed of wastewater entering the Riddells Creek RWP once the Riddells Creek Rising Sewer Main upgrade has been completed.
  • Upgrade an ageing facility that is reaching the end of it's asset life.
  • Futureproof this asset against greater demand caused by growth in the coming years, limiting the works we will have to complete later.

Construction was recently completed on the Riddells Creek Rising Sewer Main upgrade along Sutherlands Road, Riddells Creek. It upgraded the existing sewer pipeline and pump stations that transfer sewage from Riddells Creek to the RWP.

The sewer upgrade will result in wastewater reaching the Riddells Creek RWP at a much faster rate than it currently does. The inlet works needs upgrading to ensure it can manage the increased speed of flows it will be receiving.

What are the benefits of this upgrade?

Project Updates

Thank you for sharing your feedback and questions during the submission period. Construction on the inlet works upgrade will start in mid-January 2024 and is expected to be complete in Spring 2024.

What have we heard from the community?

Questions about the project included:

  • Whether the upgrade would increase the amount of recycled water produced and discharged by the RWP.
  • How the upgrade would impact properties in the area.

These questions are addressed in the information below.

What to expect during construction

We make every effort to minimise the impact of our works on the local community. During construction you can expect:

  • Increased construction traffic entering the access track from Sutherlands Road, including trucks and machinery.
  • While most construction activities will take place within the boundary of the existing plant, preliminary works will include activities to improve the access track.
  • The work may produce some dust and noise (within allowable standards)
  • The works will not increase odour from the treatment facility.
  • You will not experience any changes to your sewerage service.
  • This upgrade will not result in an increase in the wastewater treated or recycled water produced by the RWP.

This is a notice under section 175 of the Water Act 1989 (Vic).

Due to population growth Greater Western Water intends to replace the existing inlet works at the Riddells Creek Recycled Water Plant, construct necessary sewer connections, and carry out required construction works. These construction works would affect owners and occupiers at Sutherlands Road and Websters Road Riddells Creek and properties directly adjacent to the Recycled Water Plant.

If you wish to make a submission about the proposed construction, you can send your submission to Greater Western Water either by:

Mail: Locked Bag 350, Sunshine VIC 3020

Email: engagement@gww.com.au

Submissions must be received no later than close of business 3 January 2024.

If no submissions are received, Greater Western Water intends to carry out the construction works on and from 8 January 2024.
