• Night works extended

Our investigative night works on Wurudnjeri Way have been extended due to wet weather impacting ground conditions. Works will continue from Sunday 21 to Thursday 25 June, 9pm to 5am.

We know night works are disruptive to the local community. We'll work as efficiently as we can and thank you for your patience and understanding.

Project overview

We’re building approximately 750 metres of new sewer pipes under Melbourne’s CBD and Docklands, to double the capacity of the sewer. The new pipeline will be installed under Flinders Lane, Spencer Street, Siddeley Street and Wurundjeri Way.

This project will be delivered by Aqua Metro for Greater Western Water.

We’re committed to letting local communities know about our works. If you live in the area, we’ll send you a letter with more information before we start construction. As the project continues, we’ll keep you updated.

Current works

Current works

  • Nights works on Wurundjeri Way

We’re doing investigation works to better understand the ground conditions and locate underground services. This helps reduce the risk of issues during construction.

    When we're working:

    • Tuesday 9 to Thursday 11 June
    • Sunday 14 to Thursday 18 June
    • Sunday 21 to Thursday 25 June

    What to expect:

    • We will work 9pm to 5am, Sunday night to Friday morning
    • Temporary traffic detours to keep everyone safe
    • Some noise from machinery and vehicles during the night
  • Piling works at Siddeley Street and Spencer Street

We're building a large shaft at the corner of Siddeley Street and Spencer Street. This shaft will allow a tunnelling machine to be placed in the ground to build the new underground sewer pipeline.

    What is piling?

'Piling' is the process of drilling holes into the ground and filling them with concrete to stabalise the earth around the shaft, ensuring the security of roads and buildings near the construction site.

Construction of the new sewer

(please refer to image below)

Major construction on the new sewer began in June 2026. If you live or work near our works, we will continue to keep you updated and informed as construction continues.

Location of sewer construction

The line on the map below shows where we will install the underground sewer pipe. The pins show the location of our construction sites.

We will be completing our work in stages, at a few construction sites at a time, to reduce impacts on the local area.
