Project overview

We’re building approximately 750 metres of new sewer pipes under Melbourne’s CBD and Docklands, to double the capacity of the sewer. The new pipeline will be installed under Flinders Lane, Spencer Street, Siddeley Street and Wurundjeri Way.

This project will be delivered by Aqua Metro for Greater Western Water.

We’re committed to letting local communities know about our works. If you live in the area, we’ll send you a letter with more information before we start construction. As the project continues, we’ll keep you updated.

Current and upcoming works

We are currently relocating other underground services at the corner of Spencer and Siddeley Street. Find out more about these works.

Construction of the new sewer

Major construction on the new sewer is expected to start in April 2026. If you live or work near our works, we will update you and provide more specific details before our construction starts.

Location of sewer construction

The line on the map below shows where we will install the underground sewer pipe. The pins show the location of our construction sites.

We will be completing our work in stages, at a few construction sites at a time, to reduce impacts on the local area.
