Project Overview

We’re upgrading the sewer between Powlett Street and the Sunbury Recycled Water Plant (RWP) on Harker Street. This will involve laying a second (or duplicate) pipe along the same alignment as the existing sewer, to increase capacity.

This work is happening in two sections. See the map below for the location of our works. Click the markers (the different coloured pipe icons) to find out more about each section.

Project Updates

Works on Brook and Powlett streets will begin from late October 2023 and will take 4 to 6 weeks to complete.

Traffic changes

  • Powlett Street will be closed on the east side of the intersection with Brook Street.
  • One lane will be closed at this intersection. Temporary traffic lights and traffic management will be in place to guide vehicles and pedestrians around the area.
  • Residents will need to access the west side of Powlett Street via Brook Street, and the east side of Powlett Street from Macedon Street.
  • Driveways will not be impacted by the closure.

See map below for more information. The red section shows where Powlett Street will be closed, and the orange line shows where one lane will be closed, with traffic management in place.

What to expect during the works

We will make every effort to minimise disruption and inconvenience. During the next stage of works, you can expect:

  • Working hours will be from Monday to Friday, 7am to 5pm.
  • We may need to carry out some work at night between 10pm and 5am.
  • Temporary fencing and barriers will be in place.
  • There will be some noise and dust during construction.
  • There will be increased construction traffic in the area for the length of the works.

Work is starting on Wednesday 28 June and is expected to take up to 6 months to complete. Work will start at the southern end of this section of the alignment. We will also be carrying out some investigative works on Brook and Powlett streets during this time.

Construction is expected to begin on Brook and Powlett streets in September 2023. We will notify residents and share more information before this work starts.

What to expect during the works

We will make every effort to minimise disruption and inconvenience to you. During the works, you can expect:

  • Work will include the use of heavy machinery, trenching and excavation, and installing pipes.
  • There will be construction traffic and heavy machinery entering and exiting the worksite from Powlett Street.
  • Investigations will include identifying underground services, which will involve road marking.
  • We will need to remove some trees to allow access to the worksite.

This is a notice under section 175 of the Water Act 1989 (Vic).

Greater Western Water intends to construct a duplicate sewer pipeline between Powlett Street and the Sunbury Recycled Water Plant. These works would directly affect residents in the area from the intersection of Brook Street and Powlett Street to 120 Harker Street. See the map below for location of these works.
